Service Changes

Long Beach Transit has three annual service changes in February, June and August. Learn about upcoming changes, improvements in service and other announcements below.

LBT’s next service change will go into effect on Sunday, February 4, 2024. Please see below for details. 

Upcoming Service Change

Route 121/131 - Service to Alamitos Bay Landing
Route 121 service will extend to Alamitos Bay Landing to accommodate for Route 131 service ending at 8:30 p.m. When traveling on Route 121 after 8:30 p.m., expect an additional 10 minutes added to your commute to accommodate for the extended service to Alamitos Bay Landing. 

Two additional westbound trips from Pacific Coast Highway at Clark Avenue will be added at 7:15 a.m. and 8:55 a.m., to provide more trips to CSULB.

Route 131  

Route 131 service will now end at approximately 8:30 p.m. every day.  

Southbound Alternatives  

Customers can board eastbound Route 121 as an alternative for southbound Route 131 and to get to Alamitos Bay Landing after 8:30 p.m. 

Please note, the final weekday southbound trip for Route 131 serving Alamitos Bay Landing will depart from Wardlow Station at 7:05 p.m., arriving at Alamitos Bay Landing at 7:48 p.m. To reach Alamitos Bay Landing after that trip, customers can board eastbound Route 121 between Redondo Avenue and Marina Drive along on Ocean Boulevard and 2nd Street. This will result in an approximately 45-minute wait between service times. 

 The final weekend southbound trip for Route 131 serving Alamitos Bay Landing will depart from Wardlow Station at 7:00 p.m., arriving at Alamitos Bay Landing at approximately 7:40 p.m. 

Westbound Alternatives  

Customers can board westbound Route 121 and transfer to the Metro A Line as an alternative for northbound Route 131 and to reach Wardlow Station after 8:30 p.m. 

Please note, the final weekday northbound trip for Route 131 will depart from Alamitos Bay Landing at 8:13 p.m. The first westbound trip for Route 121 will leave Alamitos Bay Landing at 8:57 p.m. This will result in an approximately 44-minute wait between service times. 

 The final weekend northbound trip for Route 131 will depart Alamitos Bay Landing at 8:06 p.m., arriving at Wardlow Station at approximately 8:45 p.m.

Route 121/131 Info. Sheet

Route 41/45 – Anaheim Avenue
Route 41 was introduced in September 2021 to provide enhanced bus service to West Long Beach along Easy Avenue. Additionally, it provides a direct connection to Wardlow Station from Anaheim Street. To further enhance service on Route 41, most Route 45 trips will be combined with Route 41.  

Starting Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, customers who previously rode Route 45 can now ride Route 41 with the following improvements:     

  • Route 41 will operate daily from approximately 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., extending evening service by two hours    
  • Route 41 will have an increased frequency of 20-24 minutes along Easy Avenue     
  • Route 41 connects CSULB to West Long Beach, including direct service to Wardlow Station 

Route 45 will only operate as resources allow during school commute times.

Other Route Changes

Route 51 

On weekdays from 5:45 a.m. to 6:45 a.m., the frequency will be reduced from every 15 minutes to every 20 minutes.  

Route 61 

On weekdays from 8:05 a.m. to 9:05 a.m., the frequency will increase from every 15 minutes to every 10 minutes.  

On weekdays from 2:11 p.m. to 3:08 p.m., the frequency will increase from every 15 minutes to every 10 minutes.  

Route 71 

Two weekday morning trips will be moved earlier in the morning to improve service to Paramount High School. 

The first southbound trip from Walmart at Paramount Boulevard will leave earlier at 5:54 a.m. instead of 6:03 a.m. 

 The second northbound trip from Transit Gallery, Shelter D will leave earlier at 7:00 a.m. instead of 7:10 a.m. 


Route 101  

Eastbound Route 101 weekday trip from Santa Fe Avenue and 25th Street will be moved from 4:30 p.m. to 4:35 p.m.  

Route 102  

Westbound Route 102 weekday trip from Willow Street and Lakewood Boulevard at 2:20 p.m. will be moved to 2:25 p.m. to provide better service to Reid High School. 

 Eastbound Route 102 weekday trip from Santa Fe Avenue and 25th Street will be moved from 2:55 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  

 

Route 103 

Westbound Route 103 weekday trip at Bellflower Boulevard and Centralia Street will be moved from 2:28 p.m. to 2:23 p.m. to provide better service to Lakewood High School. 

Route 104 

Eastbound Route 104 weekday trip from Santa Fe Avenue and 25th Street will be moved from 4:25 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to improve layover time. 

 

Routes 172/173  

Northbound Route 172 weekday trip leaving Transit Gallery, Shelter F at 1:15 p.m. was moved to 1:20 p.m., and the 2:45 p.m. trip was moved to 2:50 p.m. to better serve Millikan High School. 

Southbound Route 173 trip leaving Norwalk Station at 11:35 a.m. was moved to 11:40 a.m., and the 12:59 p.m. trip was moved to 1:04 p.m. 

An additional southbound Route 172 weekday trip will leave Palo Verde Avenue and Spring Street at 2:50 p.m. 

 

Routes 171/175 

A new bus stop will serve westbound Routes 171 and 175 at Pacific Coast Highway and Cherry Avenue. The new stop will be moved approximately 200 feet east from bus stop #1690 that will continue to serve 172, 173 and 174. 

 

Eastbound Route 171 weekday frequency to Seal Beach will increase from every 40 minutes to every 20 minutes.  

From 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., Eastbound Routes 171 and 175 will increase frequency from every 20 minutes to every 15 minutes. 

Route 172  

Three additional weekday trips will be added to Westbound Route 172 leaving CSULB at 1:44 p.m., 3:04 p.m., and 3:24 p.m. to avoid overcrowding. 

Route 181  

Southbound Route 181 weekday trip leaving Wardlow Station will be moved from 3:01 p.m. to 3:06 p.m. to better serve Lafayette Elementary School. 

Northbound Route 181 weekday trip leaving Transit Gallery Shelter D will be moved from 3:35 p.m. to 3:40 p.m. 

Additional Trippers

School trippers will be added at peak student travel times to existing routes. These services are provided as-needed and are subject to change based on bus availability and customer demand during peak student times.

Below are the routes and respective schools where additional service can be expected: 

Minor Time Adjustments for Routes

Routes that will have time adjustments of less than five minutes:
2, 41, 45, 46, 61, 91, 92, 93, 94, 101, 102, 103, 104, 111, 112, 131, 171, 173, 175, and 191. 

Paused Routes

Routes that continue to be paused:
Routes 52, 81, 96, 176.
