Meet Marisol Barajas
Marisol Barajas, Manager of Government Relations, joined the LBT team two and a half years ago. In her role, she collaborates with government offices, elected officials, and community stakeholders to align LBT’s strategic goals with policies, track legislation, and secure funding opportunities.
Marisol attended California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), where she studied Women’s Studies and Sociology, fueling her passion for being active in her community and creating change through policy.
“My role as Government Relations Manager has been the perfect fit, allowing me to be a voice for LBT between elected officials and the agency. This work is vital to ensuring the needs of our customers and the surrounding communities we serve are represented and supported,” shared Marisol.
Marisol grew up relying on public transportation to navigate her daily life, commuting to school, work, and exploring the greater Los Angeles area. “I rode the RTD bus line for eight years, traveling from South Gate to El Sereno,” she shared. “I also used public transportation in high school to get to school and later to college.”
As a long-time transit user, Marisol’s advice to anyone wanting to try public transportation is simple: be kind and build a connection with your bus operator. “Knowing your bus operator, especially as a woman and LGBTQ-identified individual, is so important,” she shared. “When you’re riding the same bus every day, it becomes a community, so it’s nice to make those relationships in case something happens—or in my case, falling asleep on the bus. On one of the old bus routes I used to take, I’d always fall asleep, and my bus operator would wake me up every time.”
When Marisol is not working you can catch her attending her favorite indie bands in concert or seeing live shows.
