Meet Sandra


Sandra Martinez has been a Long Beach Transit (LBT) customer and public transit rider for the past three years. After retiring from her career as a social worker, she took a vacation to Europe where she tried public transit for the first time. She loved the convenience and accessibility so much that when she returned home, she decided to make it a part of her routine.

ā€œEven though I have a car, I try to incorporate public transit several times a month,ā€ Sandra said. ā€œI love not having to worry about parking or traffic. It just makes getting around so much easier.ā€Ā 

Sandra always plans her trips ahead of time to know exactly where she’s going, using LBT’s online trip planner to help map out her route. ā€œI try to pick several days out of the month to ride the bus. Using the online trip planner has been really helpful. Like today, you caught me on a shopping day and now I’m about to take the bus back home,ā€ she said. She uses the LBT Day Pass, which gives her unlimited rides for the day of purchase and opts for the digital TAP card on her phone, making it easy to tap and go.Ā 

ā€œFirst, don’t be afraid of taking the bus. After the first-time riding, it becomes a lot less intimidating,ā€ she added. ā€œJust plan your trip ahead, either online or by calling, and make sure your TAP card is loaded and ready to go.ā€Ā 

When Sandra is not exploring the city by bus, you can find her spending time with her family or shopping at a nearby mall.Ā
