Long Beach, CA – Long Beach City Mayor Rex Richardson appointed Carl Kemp to serve on the Long Beach Transit (LBT) Board of Directors. His first LBT Board of Directors meeting was on Thursday, April 25, 2024. 

“The LBT Board of Directors extends a warm welcome to Director Carl Kemp,” shared Board Chair David Sutton. “I know that with his extensive community experience, his contributions will be invaluable to LBT as we continue to connect communities and move people.” 

Director Carl Kemp is a resident of the 5th Council District and is currently the Executive Director of Public Affairs and Marketing at Long Beach City College, where he serves as a member of the President’s Executive Cabinet. He has more than 20 years of experience in communications and public affairs. Director Kemp created the Office of Government Affairs and Communication in the City of Long Beach and went on to create the Office of Government Affairs and Community Relations at the Port of Long Beach as well.   

“Mayor Richardson’s appointment is an honor, and I am excited to serve Long Beach,” said Director Kemp. “I love this city and I will do my best to use my experience, knowledge and background to continue serving this community.”   

Director Kemp earned a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Public Administration from California State University, Long Beach, where he served two terms as student body president and Black Student Union president.
