Richard Hernandez

Meet Richard Hernandez

Richard Hernandez has been a Bus Operator at LBT for six and a half years. Prior to joining LBT, Richard worked as a Special Education teacher. His interest in bus driving was sparked by a field trip taken with his students in which they had the opportunity to ride public transit.

When he felt called to change professions, Richard came across LBT and decided to apply. With no previous driving experience, the thought of driving a bus seemed intimidating, but Richard said LBT equipped him with all the necessary training to be successful on the road.

“They really provide you with great training. You don’t have to have any previous bus-driving experience, just a willingness to learn,” says Richard.

Richard’s favorite things about being a Bus Operator are serving a diverse community, meeting new customers along his route and building relationships with existing customers. “Driving the same routes, you really get an opportunity to know the people who ride with LBT. You get to see them celebrate milestones or hear them share about things going on in their lives. It’s special,” he shares.

In his free time, Richard is a big sports fan. “I love the local teams – Lakers and Dodgers. When it comes to football, I’m a big Cowboys fan.” After growing up in the Long Beach area and being an L.A. County resident for years, he appreciates the opportunity LBT has provided him to serve a community he loves.

LBT is currently hiring friendly, community-minded Bus Operators like Richard. No previous driving experience is needed. LBT will teach you everything you need to know! If you or someone you know is interested in joining LBT, please visit ridelbt.com/careers.
